5 <title>VirtualBox privacy policy</title>

9 <para>This privacy policy sets out how Oracle Corporation ("Oracle") treats
10 personal information related to the virtualbox.org website and the
11 VirtualBox application.</para>

13 <para><emphasis role="bold">§ 1 virtualbox.org.</emphasis> The
14 "virtualbox.org" website logs anonymous usage information such as your IP
15 address, geographical location, browser type, referral source, length of
16 visit and number of page views while you visit (collectively, "anonymous
17 data"). In addition, but only if you choose to register, the website's bug
18 tracking and forum services store the data you choose to reveal upon
19 registration, such as your user name and contact information.</para>

21 <para><emphasis role="bold">§ 2 Cookies.</emphasis> The virtualbox.org
22 website, the bug tracker and the forum services use cookies to identify and
23 track the visiting web browser and, if you have registered, to facilitate
24 login. Most browsers allow you to refuse to accept cookies. While you can
25 still visit the website with cookies disabled, logging into the bug tracker
26 and forum services will most likely not work without them.</para>

28 <para><emphasis role="bold">§ 3 VirtualBox registration process.</emphasis>
29 The VirtualBox application may ask that the user optinoally register with

37 VirtualBox application may contact Oracle to find out whether a new version
38 of VirtualBox has been released and notify the user if that is the case. In
39 the process, anonymous data such as your IP address and a non-identifying
40 counter, together with the product version and the platform being used, is
41 sent so that the server can find out whether an update is available. By
42 default, this check is performed once a day. You change this interval or
43 disable these checks altogether in the VirtualBox preferences.</para>

45 <para><emphasis role="bold">§ 5 Usage of personal information.</emphasis>
46 Oracle may use anonymous and personal data collected by the means above for
47 statistical purposes as well as to automatically inform you about new
48 notices related to your posts on the bug tracker and forum services, to
49 administer the website and to contact you due to technical issues. Oracle
50 may also inform you about new product releases related to VirtualBox.</para>

53 provided to any third parties, unless Oracle may be required to do so by law
54 or in connection with legal proceedings.</para>

58 should check this page occasionally to ensure you are happy with any
