Creating Your First Virtual Machine

In the VirtualBox Manager window, click New. The Create Virtual Machine wizard is shown, to guide you through the required steps for setting up a new virtual machine (VM).

The steps are:

Once created, the virtual machine is displayed in the machine list on the left side of the window, with the name that you entered on the first page of the wizard.

You can change the settings later, after you have created the VM, using the Machine Settings.

Before you start you must have an operating system image, in ISO format, for the operating system you intend to install on the VM. does not supply the OS or any license required to use it.

The settings on the wizard pages may vary depending on the architecture of the host platform, as follows:

x86 host platforms. This includes Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms.
Arm host platforms. This includes Apple silicon hosts and some Linux OSes.
