3	3	today, i removed all prior Virtual Box files and directories, removed all prior virtual machines, and did a fresh, clean install of Virtual Box 4.1.16 and extension pack. after that, i was able to successfully install and boot Ubuntu 64bit. will now attempt new Win7 install.
