I doubt that we will ever release guest additions for earlier versions of Windows. The reason is that we have just a lot of higher-priority tasks to perform first. Please have a look at our FAQ section (http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/User_FAQ) -- there is a link to DisplayDoctor.

Hi,

I'm wondering a bit about this one... is the official statement from the developers

"We will never ever produce guest additions for Windows 98" or "We will produce guest additions for Windows 98 once we get more pressing bugs fixed" ?

While there is a fix for the 100% CPU, and there are some (iffy) video drivers available, stable graphics drivers, mouse integration, and clipboard integration would be extremely helpful. It seems that VMWare was able to write the 98 additions for their solution.

I hope that 98SE will have better support in the future, as it has become somewhat impracticle if not impossible to run Win98 on physical hardware, leaving the only option for running this OS is to run in a VM. (Or keep an old Pentium 2 in the closet ;) ) Thanks

To clarify - there are currently no plans on our part to write guest additions for Windows 98, and I think that the only thing likely to change this would be demand on the part of paying customers. I am afraid that I am not aware of any such demand at present.

For what it's worth, here is another vote for a usable video driver for Windows 98.

As alluded to earlier, virtual machines are fast becoming the only convenient way to run legacy applications and perform data recovery from old media and/or file formats.

I use the next driver and is much better than nothing:

http://bearwindows.boot-land.net/vbe9x.htm

It works for 95 too. It is a little slow on maximum resolution but you can select at least 1024 and 16bit color depth.

Use the regular "update driver" in 98 or 95 to have better image.

Good luck, Titus
