seamless mode straddles dual head monitors (windows guest - linux host)
Reported by: | mcrandello | Owned by:

Component: | GUI/multiview | Version: | VirtualBox 1.5.6 |
Keywords: | dual head monitor split screen resolution | Cc:

Description (last modified by )
Windowed mode and fullscreen both appear to work, although switching from one to the other requires going into the display properties and re-setting the display dimensions. I'm using archlinux, kernel 2.6.24-ARCH x86_64 with X.Org X Server 1.4.0.90, VirtualBox PUEL 1.5.6, an nvidia 8800GT driver version 169.07. This is a dual monitor (twinview) setup for a total combined resolution of 2560x1024.
The seamless mode does not want to accept that and reverts to 1280x1024, situated in between both monitors. This leaves the outer halves of the two monitors unusable by any windows spawned within the VM.

One thing I should mention. I noticed in the screenshot that the clock/systray appears to be cut off on the right, as if it's rendering at the proper rez but getting cut off somewhere between the vm and the screen.

After a reboot for other issues I noticed that the clock and systray returned, however the vm is still exhibiting other symptoms, taking a total of 1280x1024 and positioning itself between to the two monitors.

This seems to be due to problems in Qt. The next major version of VirtualBox will be based on Qt4, which will hopefully fix this.

I upgraded from 1.5.0_OSE to 1.5.6 because I had a clipboard problem, but now seamless mode is broken on my secondary monitor.. The first time I had weird rendering like in the screenshot, but after a reboot when I hist Ctrl+L the VM window just disappear.
It seems to works fine in my primary display, except for the rendering bugs when no guest window are open, but it always been like that and I can live with it.
I run Ubuntu Gutsy

As of 1.6.2 the problem is still present and seems to have compounded, the second monitor now will not display anything in seamless mode and there are corruption issues with apps started in the 1rst monitor space. I'll attach another SS.

Still having problems with 2.02, it is still attempting to straddle the screen but now is only appearing in the viewport that it was put into seamless mode from, as seen in the screenshot. If started on the right hand side only the right half of the taskbar will be visible.
Also the taskbar only appears when moved to the top or bottom of the screen, if moved to the outside edge of the viewport it shows a 100 or so pixel wide grey stripe and a black one if moved to the inside edge of the viewport. In addition the menus from the start button and any context menus from the taskbar disappear about 2-3 pixels from the actual taskbar- i.e. the seamless mode is only allowing display for the size of the taskbar plus about 2-3 pixels above or below it depending on which part of the screen it is on.
