Graphical artifacts with nvidia card on Linux?

Description
For some reason VirtualBox shows artifacts when running several operating systems. My version is currently 4.3.10 but it doesn't matter which version it is because the new VirtualBox is doing it also.
Tested it on a Ubuntu laptop with a Intel graphics card and it doesn't give this problem. Maybe it could be Nvidia related?

Replying to michael:
When you say you tested this on a different system, did you actually copy the virtual disk images to the other machine or did you create new ones?
All my virtual machines are running from a external hard disk. I copied the test file (in this case Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS) to my local harddisk in my laptop. Then I get no artifacts, same for when I run the virtual machine directly from my external hard disk.
However I suspect that this has something to do with Ubuntu 14.04 and maybe Compiz because I removed my Nvidia card a booted with my onboard AMD Graphics card and I get the same artifacts. I'm also thinking it has something to do with the failure of 3D acceleration regarding ticket 12941.

In that case you can try testing without Compiz, e.g. with gnome-session-fallback. You should also make sure that there are no significant differences between the machine XML files you use on both systems (the laptop and the problem system).
