Vista Business (32b) + Kubuntu 7.10 or 8.04 (i386) = Blue screen of death -> fixed in 1.6.2

Description

Host OS: Vista Busines 32-bit

Guest OS: Kubuntu 8.04 (i386, 32-bit) (applies also to Kubuntu 7.10)

Configuration: HP Compaq 6715s, AMD Turion 64 X2 T-58, ATI Mobility Radeon X1250 (with Catalyst v8.476, 2GB RAM

After starting virtual machine screen goes blank. A couple of seconds later, it restores and message appears saying that ATI display driver successfully recovered from crash. System becomes unresponsive, screen blinks few times more and then Blue screen of death appears.

Same symptoms appeared with any combination of VB v1.5.6 v1.6.0 and Kubuntu v7.10 and 8.04

I have the same problem - HP 6715b notebook. It worked with VBox 1.5.6 because I could enable the AMD-V mode. With 1.6.0 I can't run any VM (neither kubuntu nor Win 2000) with AMD-V mode enabled.

There is workaround for this bug that works with VB 1.5.6 On the other hand, same bug persists in VB 1.6.0 and workaround is not effective there. More details can be found in VB Forum topic:
