Copy/Paste Issue With Security Onion

Description
I'm having issues with using the shared clipboard to copy and paste to and from my Windows 10 host to Security Onion (Ubuntu-based) virtual machine with VirtualBox. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue or if there's a known workaround. This was with the newest version of Security Onion, freshly installed and updated with sudo soup. Tried using Guest Additions and open-vm-tools/desktop. Below are further details.
Version of VirtualBox - Version 6.1.4 r136177 (Qt5.6.2) with 6.1.4 extension pack installed.
Version of Security Onion - Security Onion 16.04.6.4
Tried installing VirtualBox 6.1.4 Guest Additions - no copy/paste functionality
Tried installing open-vm-tools & open-vm-tools-desktop - no copy/paste functionality
Assistance would be greatly appreciated.
