#8016 closed defect (obsolete)
VM will not shutdown or restart
Reported by: | Don Seiler | Owned by: | |
---|---|---|---|
Component: | other | Version: | VirtualBox 4.0.0 |
Keywords: | Cc: | ||
Guest type: | Linux | Host type: | Windows |
Description (last modified by )
This has happened so far on two VMs. Both running Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5 as guests. Both using second virtual SCSI disks for Oracle ASM.
When shutting down, the last thing I see in the guest console is "Synchronizing SCSI cache", and the vbox log is full of errors about taking screenshots. See attached for the vbox log.
The guest just hangs here until I manually kill the VirtualBox process for it.

See attachment. Note that while this VM remains hung, it keeps appending a new line (the same line) every second.
03:16:00.718 ERROR [COM]: aRC=VBOX_E_IPRT_ERROR (0x80bb0005) aIID={09eed313-cd56-4d06-bd56-fac0f716b5dd} aComponent={Display} aText={Could not take a screenshot (VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED)}, preserve=false
It has the potential to fill up a disk.

When I try to simply close the VM window, I get an error box that says "Failed to pause the execution of the virtual machine" with these details:

The log file which was at 400k at the time of ticket creation is now over 11Mb. I will kill the process, hopefully something is done to fix the problem.

I had the same on Kubuntu 10.10 x64 with a Windows 2003 guest ...

I have the same problem after the installation or after doing the first software updates. Using Ubuntu i386 Desktop on Windows 7 64 bit.
I forgot to note that my host system is also Windows 7 home premium, 64-bit.

I am getting something similar when starting up a VM. I attached my log file.

Actually, i believe there is something to do with the vm additions. I reverted back to an older 3.x series and it started working properly.

I have exactly the same error 4.0.2 running on Sol Express 11. ERROR [COM]: aRC=VBOX_E_IPRT_ERROR (0x80bb0005) aIID={09eed313-cd56-4d06-bd56-fac0f716b5dd} aComponent={Display} aText={Could not take a screenshot (VERR_TRY_AGAIN)}, preserve=false Could it be related to the preview function of the GUI?
Yes, it could. So could you try to disable the preview function and check if this problem is still reproducible?

Still occurs in 4.2.16 under Windows 7 32 bit host. Did not occur with same Vbox version under XP Pro host but after upgrading Windows it occurs every time. Guest is LinuxMint 15. Guest additions are not installed. Will try turning off 3D acceleration.
