Hi,
Yes Mageia is/was a fork of Mandriva, but we are diverging more from each other so I think it is justified to add Mageia support too (and nicer to our endusers). (for now we use pretty much the same config as Mandriva,
but I might provide a few changes later, when we (at Mageia) have discussed them)
Attached are tested patches + icons for adding support in 4.1.4.
The only thing I'm unsure about is how to handle the different CIMOSType_CIMOS_* lists as:
Theese stops at 102: src/VBox/Main/cbinding/VBoxCAPI_v2_2.h src/VBox/Main/cbinding/VBoxCAPI_v3_0.h
THis one goes to 110: src/VBox/Main/include/ovfreader.h
I just used 111 and 112 for Mageia for now.
Oh, and When I added Mageia info to the install manual I noticed some duplicated text in the french one. See the attached patch.

Thanks for spotting the user manual text duplication. If you are interested in the French translation of the manual you might get in touch with the translator (Jean-Phillipe Mengual, Texou on freenode/#vbox-dev or see https://www.virtualbox.org/pipermail/vbox-dev/2011-July/004390.html).
I'm afraid that I won't apply your other patch, as we are very reluctant to add items to the OS list (we have plans if we ever get round to it to remove the hard-coded list altogether so that users can configure their own entries), and a lot of the rest just duplicates existing things. Particularly in the Additions installer I would rather get rid of the distribution-specific bits and not add new ones which don't add value.

Ok, Thanks for the info.
I have done our patch set for both 4.0.14 and 4.1.4 branch so I can maintain them in our svn.
Can you comment on the differences in the CIMOSType_CIMOS_* lists?
And as a suggestion for upcoming releases, try to make it easy to preconfigure "standard" virtualbox vm for endusers.

Regarding CIM, please see http://dmtf.org/standards/cim. I really don't think you want to be touching that. Please also see the attached patch. And I really don't think that you need to add references to Mageia into source comments or places the user will never see - that looks more like an attempt to boost Google ratings than anything else.

Handle Linux distributions more generically in a couple of places

Thanks for the CIM info, and for the suggested patch.
The reason for adding Mageia all over was not for google ratings...
It's simply a result of grepping the tree for Mandiva and adding Mageia to the places found

Summary: | Mageia not listed under OS → Mageia not listed under OS -> won't fix (not in DMTF/CIM) |
See r39121. Not changed the NLS files as that text currently never seems to get shown anyway. And thinking about the issue for a bit, we decided to keep the OS list as it is for the time being as more or less tracking the CIM/DMTF list makes sense for us for importing and exporting. You could try talking to them of course...
So if you don't mind I will close this ticket again.

Actually you missed one place where I think a change really is justified - the New VM wizard. See r39919.
As far as I know, Mageia is a variant on Mandriva, isn't it? The OS type is mainly to tell VirtualBox to adjust a few (very few) parameters to fit the guest it is to run, so selecting Mandriva should be quite good enough here.
