Description (last modified by )
I have been trying to track down the issue of not being able to use Gnome3 in an RPM guest.
If I install and select to use SMP (2 processors) the guest will refuse to load the Gnome3 DT at least 8 out of 10 tries. Stating there is a problem and you need to logout and try again. No matter what I do it fails except setting the processor count to (1) It then loads each and every time. Turning off 3D acceleration allows me to use SMP (2 processors) and also works every time but in fall-back mode (no Gnome3).
Needless to say this really cuts down on the guests speed and compiling time more than doubles. This does not seem to be the case with Debian based guests though as I can run with (2) processors and Gnome3 works as intended.
I have removed the openSUSE (included) guest additions and installed the latest VirtualBox guest additions but this does not seem to make a difference.
Host is Ubuntu 11.10 Kernel 3.0.0-13-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Wed Nov 2 13:27:26 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Guest is openSUSE 12.4 Kernel 3.1.0-1.2-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Nov 3 14:45:45 UTC 2011 (187dde0) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I am also including (2) log files one works (1 processor) and one does not work (2 processor) but from what I see in the logs there is no indication that VirtualBox is unhappy with anything.
