Windows 7 Aero Issues

Description
I have a Windows 7 VM running on Vitualbox 4.1.10 on Linux 3.0.0-14 generic. Windows aero is not displaying properly after installing guest additions 4.1.10.
I twist is aero ran fine in 4.1.8. Only in 4.1.8 for instance windows media player did not display the video (and pictures did not display in the viewer), oddly I can now actually see the videos played in windows media player (and pictures in the viewer), but aero will not display correctly and will actually sometimes force the VM to abort. System appears to run great without an aero theme.

What exactly do you see rendering incorrectly with Aero on VBox 4.1.10? Could you try the following test build of VBox guest additions, that contains some recent fixes to VBox D3D functionality http://www.virtualbox.org/download/testcase/VBoxGuestAdditions_4.1.11-76937.iso and see if it makes any difference?
Simply, the desktop does not render correctly by not refreshing. For instance, when the desktop initializes it is blank and only the task bar is visible, although not always. The background may refresh and show when windows are opened and moved around, icons will show when you mouse over them. Additionally, the rending lags very badly, so for instance when you move a window around, it will usually leave traces of itself behind (background not refreshing). If I switch from a non-aero theme to an aero theme it will typically crash immediately or shortly after. I'll try the version below, thanks, and thanks for the quick response.

With the above version of GuestAdditions, the guest has the same issue with aero, I also tried playing a video in windows media player and it crashes the guest, sends it straight to a reset. I had to turn off 3D in order to get back into the Guest, otherwise it would freeze right after the splash screen/video, and before the login screen.

To localize the problem could you please revert to VBox4.1.8 guest additions (that worked), and post me the log of a VM session that has Aero working correctly please?
Also, am I correct that with 4.1.8 guest additions running on VirtualBox 4.1.10 Aero is working fine for you as well?

I believe that is correct, Guest Additions 4.1.8 with aero ran fine with VBox 4.1.10. However, I can not confirm since the last snapshot I have was actually Guest Additions 4.1.2. I can say for sure Guest Additions 4.1.2 successfully runs the aero theme on VBox 4.1.10.
I would try using 4.1.8 Guest additions but I can not find the iso. If you could point me to it I would be happy to try upgrading the cloned 4.1.2 snap shot to 4.1.8 to see if it runs.

Sure, here is a link to 4.1.8 additions iso: http://www.virtualbox.org/download/testcase/VBoxGuestAdditions_4.1.8-75467.iso

Oh, the iso is available here as well http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.1.8/VBoxGuestAdditions_4.1.8.iso

This iso works just fine. So, running 4.1.8 guest additions on VBox 4.1.10 worked very well, no problems like I experience when running 4.1.10 Guest Additions on VBox 4.1.10. I'll attach the log.

More information: I went back to the same VM clone where I loaded Guest Additions 4.1.8 and upgraded to Guest Additions 4.1.10. When I did so, Aero stopped working correctly as soon as the new WDDM driver was loaded during the install. After reboot, it still did not work, so I then installed the Guest Additions 4.1.8 back on this same VM clone, Areo started working immediately after the WDDM driver was loaded during the installation process. I'd have to say, something about the 4.1.10 version of Guest Additions seems to disagree with my VM running the aero theme.

Thanks for the info. Could you please try this test build of VBox Guest Additions to see if it solves your issue with Aero?
If not - please attach a VM log again. Thanks!

Same negative results, the aero theme will not refresh the desktop correctly, on initialization the desktop is black except for the task bar. Log attached. Thanks for the help.

Could you please check whether the issue still exists with VBox 4.3 and 4.3 Additions?
