Virtualbox.exe process does not end

Description
After a session of a working VM, it seems to finish correctly when I shut down, but the process 'virtualbox.exe' does not end. If I try to immediately restart the same VM, it will not start: "Failed to open release log (Could not open file 'X: \ VirtualboxMachinePath \ Logs \ Vbox.log' (0x322 = fopen), VERR_SHARING_VIOLATION). The reason is that the log file is kept locked by the process of previous session, the process that has not ended. If I manually kill the process from task manager, I can start again the same VM with no errors.

Are you sure that you attached the correct log file? According to the log file, the process actually did terminate. And is your problem reproducible?

I have exactly the same problem as luka reported. My host OS is Windows XP SP3, VirtualBox is 4.2.0
If you look at the task manager, you can see that 'virtualbox.exe' is still there.

==> I believe this is the correct log file. If this log file is maintained by virtualbox.exe, it must write down something like "virtualbox is going down" to log file then virtualbox.exe can really quit.
And is your problem reproducible?
==> Yes, this happened every time when I re-start virtualbox.exe
