metro apps display black text on black background

Description
Windows 8 RTM is running perfectly for me, however any apps that use metro seem to display black text on a black background.
I have attached a screenshot of word 2013 (preview) you can see the entire text area is black. the same happens in outlook and some of the "tiles"
