Guest type: | Windows | Host type: | Linux |
Description
Host: openSUSE 12.2 x86_64
Guest: Windows XP
Hardware: Intel Core i7-3770, 32 GB RAM (4x8 GB 1600 MHz Elixir), NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 4096 MB
When installing Windows XP from an ISO image, the host system restarted. I had the same problem with guest systems installed on another computer and now used with the hardware above.

For me, it seems that the graphics card is responsible for the problem. Thus, I have replaced the standard nvidia driver installed by openSUSE by NVIDIA's own driver for 64 bit linux. Unfortunately, when installing Windows XP as guest system, my host system restarts (see VBox.2.log). Before that, I saw a Windows bluescreen. Immediatly thereafter, the host system restarted.

Are you still able to reproduce the host boot when you enable VT-x in your BIOS settings? It might be necessary to update your host BIOS but first you should try if you find such a setting.

Display::handleDisplayResize() was the last log entry also with my other tries with the preinstalled guest system.
