Ubuntu 12.10 32-bit guest on Windows XP Host, non-function after 4.2.12 upgrade

Description
Followed the 'upgrade' suggestions and moved from 4.2.10 to 4.2.12 today; however, after it was applied and my computer rebooted, my ubuntu 12.10 no longer runs. :-(
The error states:
Cannot access kernel driver! Make sure the kernel modules have been loaded successfully.
This is then followed by:
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine ubuntu-linux. The virtual machine 'ubuntu-linux' has terminated unexpectedly during startup. Details: Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005) Component: Machine Interface: IMachine {22781af3-1c96-4126-9edf-67a020e0e858}
Any ideas? I've reviewed other tickets about issues from the upgrade related to ubuntu 12.04 guests and that the patch for that doesn't work for the 12.10 version. It was recommended to the poster to file a ticket -- but I didn't find one which captured this issue. Is there a fix available for this?
Thank you very much for your help!

Please uninstall VirtualBox completely, then install VirtualBox 4.2.12. We've got some reports about inaccessible kernel drivers on Windows but not only with VBox 4.2.12 but also with older releases.
