Description
I recently updated my VirtualBox to the version 4.2.16 and discovered that switching fullscreen mode on and off causes VM to crash. The problem disappears when I disable 3D support option in VM settings.

I've got the same version of Ubuntu, kernel version and VirtualBox version. However, I can report that even with 3D acceleration turned off, my Windows 7 virtual machine still crashes if I try to switch to seamless mode. Fullscreeen and scaled mode seem to work fine however.

Did I get you right that the crash happens after you disable fullscreen mode or does this crash also happen if you enter fullscreen mode?
And which is the last working VirtualBox release where this crash didn't happen?

(i believe this to be caused by some ubuntu update from last week.)

I think it's another bug.

Yes, this crash also happens when I enter fullscreen mode. The last VB release without this bug was 4.2.14, but it had problem with going to seamless mode. You can read here the whole history.

Me too, My VM crashes when 3D acceleration turns on So if 3D acceleration turns off,my VM does not crash, Now,My host is Ubuntu 13.04 and my VirtualBox is 4.2.16. I think this occurs from V4.2.14 More old version does not crash.

Let's summarize:
- It crashes when entering fullscreen mode as well when leaving the fullscreen mode
- This problem was introduced in 4.2.14 or 4.2.16 while I doubt the latter
- This is on Ubuntu 13.04

- And it is fixed already. I do not know what solves the issue, last thing I did was installing lubuntu-core package, but most probably it is update of xorg drivers.

Could you please try whether the issue is gone with VBox 4.3 and 4.3 Guest Additions, and if not - please create a core dump for your crash, and and upload it to ftp://ftp.oracle.com:/appsdev/incoming .
Note that this directory is write-only for public users for security reasons.
Once the file is uploaded, please post me here the name of the file you uploaded so that I could pick it up.
