Description
I have a Seagate Backup+ Desk 4TB USB 3 drive, which works fine in both host and guest systems over USB 2, but has problems over USB 3. Seagate determined the drive was bad, so they sent me a replacement.
The new drive works fine in the host on USB 3, but doesn't work with VirtualBox at all.
Scenario 1:
- Plug in drive
- Unmount in OS X
- Start up guest system (Windows 7).
- The disk is grayed out in USB devices menu.
Scenario 2:
- Add USB filter for the disk in machine settings
- Unplug drive
- Start up guest system
- Plug in drive
- It mounts in host system
- At this point, VirtualBox acts really weird. USB devices list says "no USB devices connected". Machine settings window is completely gray. About window says "version r0". Shutting down guest gives error: NS_ERROR_CALL_FAILED. Power off doesn't work either; I have to force quit.
