New centos 6.5 (2.6.32-431.5.1.el6.x86_64) not resizing display -> configuration issue

Reported by: Adam Taylor Owned by:
Component: guest additions Version: VirtualBox 4.3.6
Keywords: resize display Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Mac OS X

Description

After installing the latest (today) Centos 6.5 2.6.32-431.5.1.el6.x86_64 and recompiling/reinstalling the VBOXADDITIONS_4.3.6_91406, everything seems to work EXCEPT screen resizing, which used to work on the prior version (2.6.32-431.3.1.el6.x86_64.

I checked for newer code, but couldn't find any.

Please attach the VBox.log file of such a VM session as well as the file /var/lib/vboxadd-install.log.

I hope these are the right files.

I tried and failed to reproduce the problem here, so we should investigate what is different in your set-up. Could you check whether the process "VBoxClient --display" is running with your user ID inside the guest X session? And could you try stopping it and restarting it from the command line inside the X session with the following command:

$ VBOX_RELEASE_LOG_DEST=stdout VBOX_RELEASE_LOG=+all.e.l.f VBoxClient --display

then try to resize the guest window on the host using the mouse and attach the log output?

Thanks.

Looks like from the log (if I'm interpreting correctly) that the resize event is never making to the VBoxClient, which is what I'm seeing; It's just like the resize isn't seen by the additions.

I am using the gcc 4.8.2 compiler, but that has worked before for the additions. Just thought I'd mention it.

Sorry, misunderstanding: I actually meant to attach the log output which VBoxClient produces on the standard output inside the guest.

By the way, silly question, but is the "Auto-Resize Guest" option in the "View" menu on the guest window enabled?

I'm an idiot. It was the Auto-Resize Guest. Works fine. Never had to turn it on before. Wonder why it changed polarity. Many thanks for your help. Sorry for being such a dunce.
