Natnetwork doesn't update DNS settings
Reported by: | Peter Hull | Owned by: | |

Description
I have been trying the experimental NAT network setting. I find that if I move the host (laptop) from one WiFi network to another it doesn't update the DNS settings. My guest still has network access (using numeric IP, but the DNS servers are still the ones from the previous host network). What I'm doing is: In location 1, Start VBox Start guest (all fine) Shutdown guest Close VBox Move to location 2 Start VBox Start guest Guest still has old DNS servers
If I reboot the host in location 2, all is fine again. Attached the VBox.log from starting the guest in location 2, output of ifconfig/all on the host in location 2, and output of nm-tool on the guest in location 2. Note DNS server is 194.168.4.100 which would have been correct for location 1.
If I use the older NAT option for networking I don't get this problem.
Host: windows 8.1 64-bit Guest: Xubuntu 13.10 (3.11.0-15-generic)

Seems to be because VBoxSVC.exe is still running even when all visible VirtualBox windows are closed. If I terminate that process I get DNS back without having to reboot the host.

Further to this, if I start a VM which doesn't use natnetwork, VBoxSVC.exe terminates 5 seconds after the UI window is closed (from my reading of the code, this is correct). However if the VM does use natnetwork then it stays running for a variable time period (I've seen 10-15 minutes) then closes. Log attached.

I tried 4.3.8_RC1r92386 moving between three different wifi networks and (with limited testing) it seems to have solved the problem. Thanks.

In that case let's close this ticket as 4.3.8 was just released.
