Component: | 3D support | Version: | VirtualBox 4.3.10 |
Keywords: | Cc: | ||
Guest type: | Linux | Host type: | Windows |
Description
Host : Windows XP, Core 2 Duo, Intel graphics
Guest : Ubuntu 14.04 beta 2
- Install a new VM from Ubuntu Trusty Beta 2 image
- Use default settings
- Enable 3D
- Install Guest Additions
This setup will get as far as the login screen just fine, but once you log in the display fills with rainbow snow and then the whole VM crashes.
The performance of the Unity desktop is rather poor when using software rendering.

Also tested on an Ubuntu 13.10 host, 64-bit, 32-bit guest.
Same settings, slightly different hardware.
- Guest survives being in 3D mode past the login
- VM host process crashes if you e.g. move from fullscreen to not-fullscreen

To clarify : the host process crashes as well as the guest ; a Windows crash report dialog is shown.
