Description

My host is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64bit. In system settings I'have a lock screen to 10 min. When screen is locked and virtualbox is running, I cannot unlock the system because the keyboard do not type and I cannot type in my password. I must send CTRL-ALT-CANC many times or logout and relogin to return to my desktop.

Is your host installation up-to-date? I hit this while using the still-in-beta 14.04, but have not seen it since. If you are up-to-date it would be great if you could investigate a bit more exactly when this happens. By the way, clicking in the menus on the lock screen made the keyboard work again when I was seeing this.

I have the same problem too. My OS is UbuntuKylin 14.04 LTS 64bit formal version, and my virtualbox is 4.3.10. When my VM running on full screen mode and is ready to enter text, the problem will appear. If I let the VM running on windowed mode, or let the full-screen VM do not get input focus, then the problem can not occur.

btw: my guest is windows xp sp3

I am seeing the same thing on Ubuntu 14.04. I have a Windows 7 SP1 guest OS and when the screen locks itself I cannot type my password into the password box when I wake it again. I was able to get around it once but I am not sure how. It may have been clicking the menus on the lock screen but when I tried that just now it did not work. I will try it again the next time it happens.

I have Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit dual screen: HP 450 Probook and an Acer V226WL monitor. When I'm full screen on the Acer monitor and my Ubuntu screen locks after 3 minutes, I cannot type on the keyboard. I found that selecting to switch a user (top right gear icon) was able to "fix" the issue. I haven't tried clicking a menu item, though. So, try switching user and just typing in your password, that may work for you.

Duplicate ticket #13158:

"My host OS is Ubuntu 14.04 and I am running Ubuntu 12 guest VMs inside. On the host OS, I have 'Lock screen after' 'Screen turns off' set. The problem is that after the screen turns off I am prompted to log in, but I cannot because a guest has captured the keyboard, so no input at all in the password field. I was able to work around this by clicking "Switch accounts..."; this way the host will have the keyboard again and I am able to type my password in.

Note that this does not happen all the time, maybe 4/10."

Ubuntu consider this to be a bug in Unity<1>. Since we have so many other things to work on I will certainly not argue with them about that.
