Description (last modified by )
I have a device I want to make available to a windows guest. Unfortunately even after installing the extensions and configuring a filter it does not become available.
Even with the guest vm down "VBoxManage list usbhost " shows the device as "unavailable".
UUID: 0545a6e1-... VendorId: 0x1163 (1163) ProductId: 0x0300 (0300) Revision: 3.16 (0316) Port: 1 USB version/speed: 0/1 Manufacturer: DeLorme Publishing Product: DeLorme USB inReach SerialNumber: 10000001-0001 Address: p=0x0300;v=0x1163;s=0x000221ff985a33b4;l=0x14100000 Current State: Unavailable
I have attached the output of "ioreg -l" that (IIUC) suggests that the OSX HID driver uses the device. I have no idea how or why. Or if virtualbox can do anything about this.

Have you tried to physically detach/re-attach the USB device after filter has been created? From ioreg I can say that it is currently in use by OS X services. Once device re-attached (if corresponding filter is created) -- VBoxUSB driver should be chosen by OS X for it. That should prevent system services from capturing device and let VBox to deal with it.
