VM crash (or BSOD) caused by Ollydbg
Reported by: | T800 | Owned by: | |
---|---|---|---|
Component: | other | Version: | VirtualBox 4.3.14 |
Keywords: | vm, debugger, ollydbg, crash, bsod | Cc: | |
Guest type: | Windows | Host type: | Windows |
Description
VB version: 4.3.14-r95030
Extpack and Guest additions: installed
Host: Windows XP SP3 x86
Guest 1: Windows XP SP3 x86
Guest 2: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x86
When i launch Ollydbg 2.1.0.4, it works, there's no problem at all, but when i load an executable into it (regardless of the guest OS), it causes serious problems, since after a few modules loaded, mostly the whole VM crashes w/o any notice under XP and BSOD appears under Windows 7. Though, with XP, in rare cases, every module loads, but debugging is still impossible, because execution gets terminated, cause of non-continuable exceptions.

Please reopen if still relevant with a recent VirtualBox release.
A VM log will probably reveal that hardware virtualization (VT-x or AMD-V) is not available on your PC. The software virtualization part, of VirtualBox, has issues.
