Stuck at Starting VM Forever

So I was able to successfully setup VirtualBox on my Host OS drive, and it was taking up too much space on my SSD, so I uninstalled and wound up deleting everything on the drive related to VirtualBox and reinstalled onto my 1TB HD which has a partition for this specifically (M:\). I installed it and mounted the ISO to the new OS I want to run in the manager, Mac OS X Mavericks, and setup everything the same as before, go to click start and get stuck on 0% for "Creating process for virtual machine "Mavericks" (GUI/Qt) ... (1/2)"

Here are the details I get:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Mavericks.

An unexpected process (PID=0x00001758) has tried to lock the machine 'Mavericks', while only the process started by LaunchVMProcess (PID=0x00001048) is allowed.

With the header of:

Hope you guys can help me with this issue. Please make your explainations a little simpler than usual, I am fairly new to this software but good with tech.

I can confirm that this is happening to me too. I have tried disabling Anti-Virus, but to no avail. I have uninstalled and re-installed twice.

Host: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1. Guests: Arch Linux x64, CentOS 7 x64

4.3.16 works just fine on my laptop running Windows 8.1 64-bit.

Same problem for me, stuck on "Creating process for virtual machine ... (GUI/Qt) ... (1/2)", solved replacing "Avast Free Antivirus" with "Comodo Free Antivirus".

aggiechris, btw, there is no support for running OSX guests on non-Apple hosts.

Here is a test build which should have a fix for this problem.

Well I am running Avast on both of my host machines, but it works on the Windows 8.1 host (even with Avast running). It's my Win7 host that won't work.

Frank, I was not running OS X (that was the original poster). I was running a Windows host, Linux guests.

I too have this problem with version 4.3.16 running on window 7 x64, but not when i downgrade to version 4.3.12. I also have avast AV running.

Is there a solution other than running 4.3.12?

Also, i am able to stop the process virtualbox.exe, which in turn prevents windows from shutting down properly; i'm forced to do a hard reset (this only happens after i try to run a VM).

The latest build (Windows, r96235 or VirtualBox-4.3.17-96235-Win) worked for me; i was able to start the VMs without any issues.

So we have at least one report that this works now. Please reopen if still reproducible with VBox 4.3.20.

I just upgraded to VBox 4.3.20 yesterday. Since then, I have been experiencing this problem.

OS is Windows 7. I have tried rebooting the host machine. It did not work.
