vboxwebsrv performance much slower in vbox 4.3.16

Description
I've a server with a lot of virtual machines, and with version 4.3.14 issuing a command like "VBoxManage list runningvms" works fine as always.
Upgrading to latest version rendered the command much, MUCH slower, to the point that phpvirtualboxadmin (that uses the web service) is unable to run any more when having many vms.
I suppose this is a seriout regression that should be taken care of
