Removing the old Additions by running the uninstaller in compatibility mode first fixed it.

Currently 3D acceleration must be always enabled for Windows 10 guest. That is please enable it before installation of the guest additions.
The crash with 3D disabled looks like a Windows 10 bug/incompatibility, because the same guest additions driver works fine with Windows 8.1.

After the first install fails with a reboot. Trying to install again makes the attached error log.
