Description
I just started having this problem a few days ago. I'm running VirtualBox on a Fedora 19 x86_64 system. The VM is Fedora 21 x86_64 with XFS as the filesystem type.
The VM hangs at Shutdown. The VBox.log file has a bunch of messages like this one:
81:10:35.843201 AsyncCompletion: Task 0x007f27155f4a40 completed after 12 seconds
If I do a reset or virtual alt-ctrl-del and reboot, the system wants to come up in maintenance mode. I don't get a clear indication as to the reason for this. The filesystems are all mounted as "normal" read/write.
I've let this slow shutdown continue all night but the VM seems to be making little or NO progress for the shutdown. Usually the virtual console disappears after a minute or two and the state changes to "Powered off". During the hang, the VM's state is "Running".

Attach the VM log of a stalled session. I suspect you're running a multi-processor VM.
