Callee RC: REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG (0x80040154) Starting Virtualbox 5.0.7 testbuild 103261

Description (last modified by Frank Mehnert)

I'm using the Virtualbox 5.0.7 testbuild 103261 version and I'm facing the following problem when I start the program:

Callee RC: REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG (0x80040154)

I've been looking about a solution because this seems like a "known issue" but when I try the steps:

  • Open a standard command line (Run > cmd)
  • Run: cd C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox
  • Run: VBoxSVC /ReRegServer
  • Run: regsvr32 VBoxC.dll

When I try to do the VBoxSVC /ReRegServer I get the following error:

The system cannot find the file C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxSVC.exe

but the file exists in that location but nothing happends, I don't know why.

I'm using the last build form Windows 10 but I have no problems with the versions at this level until now and there have been no new build since the last month, so I don't think it's a OS problem

I have the same problem. After fresh installation of VB 5.0.8 on windows 7 SP1 x32, VB main UI fails to start. Setting it to compatibility mode with win xp sp3 allows it to start, however attempt to start virtual machine fails again, with this error message.

Coud you check this forum posting? This user found out that certain special registry keys can sabotage VirtualBox.

The most recent 5.0 and 5.1 test builds for Windows contains code to detect a possible reason for this problem. All users who are affected by this problem, please install the latest 5.0.x or 5.1.x test build from above and try to start a VM. In case this still does not work there should be a more detailed error message.
