Ever after upgrading to 5.0.10 VM keeps pausing with a non-fatal error dialog

This is the contents of the error dialog :
An error has occurred during virtual machine execution! The error details are shown below. You may try to correct the error and resume the virtual machine execution.
The I/O cache encountered an error while updating data in medium "ahci-0-0" (rc=VERR_IO_NOT_READY). Make sure there is enough free space on the disk and that the disk is working properly. Operation can be resumed afterwards.
Error ID: BLKCACHE_IOERR Severity: Non-Fatal Error
There are no changes to any media, nor the VBoxAdditions ISO, while this is happening. Running on Windows 10 64-bit, platform is i7-5820k with 32 Gig RAM, VHD stored on a SSD attached via USB 3.0 . Guests are Solaris 11.3, Oracle Linux with custom 4.2.6 kernel, Debian 8 or latest FreeBSD.

Please reopen if still relevant with VBox 5.0.14. In that case please provide the information I requested in comment 1.
First, I would like to see a VBox.log file of such a VM session. Second, when your VM pauses with this error message: Are you able to access the VHD file on the external SSD drive from the host (using Windows explorer)? And is there free space available on the external drive?
Also, how big is your VHD file and what kind of file system is used to store the data on the external drive?
