Windows 10 Guest: "vboxvideow8" is stopped on login, screen resolution drops
Reported by: | Feuerfloh | Owned by:

Component: | WDDM | Version: | VirtualBox 5.0.12 |
Keywords: | vboxvideow8 | Cc:
Guest type: | Windows | Host type: | Windows |
Description
This is similar to #14957 but it still happens with VirtualBox 5.0.12
When starting the VM, the guest (Windows 10/1511) shows the start sreen in the expected screen resolution.
After clicking on screen to get the login fields (user name and password), the screen resolution drops to 1024*768 - after the login it can be increased somewhat, but the automatic adjustment of the guest does not work.
In the system log is an entry that "VBoxVideoW8" does not respond anymore and was deactivated by Windows.

New finding: The "VBoxVideoW8" driver is stopped when the login screen is shown for the first time after powering on. If I reboot the guest without powering off, then everything looks good after that reboot.

Any improvement with VBox 5.0.16 (don't forget to update the Guest Additions)?
