Hi,
When my guest (windows xp) uses network connection in bridge mode then it is unable to download windows updates. Setting network mode to NAT for interface solves this problem.

Bridge to wired. So far problem occurred on windows updates only. Yes, other network access works just fine. No firewall on host. It fails around 5%.

Please, can you start packet captures on both the guest and the host, on the interface you bridge to, and then start Windows Update in the guest. Stop the captures after the update fails.

I've updated VB to 5.0.16. Now WU shield icon freezes at 0% in nat and bridge mode. Do You need whole payload or header lines from tcpdump?

Text output from tcpdump is not very useful, please, provide pcap files. If you are concerned about accidentally leaking private data, you can limit capture size.

Please reopen when you can provide captures.
Please, provide more information.
Do you bridge to wired or wireless? Is the problem confined to just the windows updates? Do you have network connectivity otherwise? Do you have firewall set up on the host? When windows update tries to download updates with bridged adapter, does it fail immediately or some time into the process? Etc, etc...
