No audio control on Windows XP guest (AC97/ALSA)
Reported by: | virtualguy | Owned by: | |
---|---|---|---|
Component: | audio | Version: | VirtualBox 5.0.14 |
Keywords: | audio volume control ac97 alsa | Cc: | |
Guest type: | Windows | Host type: | Linux |
Description
The audio output of XP guests is always at 100% no matter how the slider is set to. Also it does not mute. This bug first occurred on 5.0.12 but still exist on 5.0.14 and is independent of installed GA version. Downgrading to Virtualbox 5.0.10 makes it work again.
Linux guests are not affected. There are no related logs, so I refrain from attaching VBox.log.

I have same problem with Windows 2000 guests in Windows 7 hosts - Master Volume control on Taskbar has no effect as well as Mute - bug started with 5.0.12 and still exists in 5.0.16.

This issue of no audio control on Windows XP guest still remains on Version 5.1.12 r112440 (Qt5.6.2. So I'm wondering if the issue will be resolved in a future release or if there is some workaround to the problem.

I have same problem with WinXP guests in both OSX and Win7 hosts - Master Volume control on Taskbar has no effect as well as Mute -
I also found that bringing up the complete set of volume controls (dbl. clicking the volume icon on the Taskbar) and using the 'Wave' volume control will work to control system sounds volume and muting. Not sure if it functions as a Master Volume or controls other audio items.
