Alias on Desktop corrupt after running

Description
If I "Create Alias on Desktop" (from the Machine Menu), a shortcut (Alias) is properly created on my desktop. However, if I use that shortcut to start the machine (when virtual box is not already running) the shortcut may get corrupted by VirtualBox. By that, I mean that instead of pointing to the .vbox file, it will end up pointing to the .vbox-prev file and thus can't start the VM. Somehow the application is changing the "original" to the preview file.
This happens nearly ever time, but not every time and I am not sure what exactly triggers it. I generally start the machine from a saved state, with virtual box not already running.
Virtualbox install is standard default installation. This has existed for at least the last three or four versions.
