#15492 new defect

Some apps not displaying correctly

Reported by: Barrie Owned by:

Description

Hi,

I've just upgraded my Linux Mint host to lastest, and had to re-install the guest additions ( from reading around this probably implies there was a kernel update... ).

However some apps aren't being displayed at all correctly, e.g. Visual Studio Code which just displays as a load of dark grey blocks. Also the login screen displays small rather than full screen ( but works ).

With some trial and error I've discovered that guest additions 5.0.16 is the last which doesn't show this problem, but 5.0.18 and 5.0.20 both do.

Chrome does the same. I've just realised that this is the same problem I've had setting up a few new VMs...

repro'd in 5.0.22

Hard to follow. In your description you talk about a Linux Mint host but you set the Host type to 'Windows'. Please attach a VBox.log file when you run your VM with VBox 5.0.22. I also assume that you have 3D enabled for this VM. What happens if you disable 3D in the VM settings?

Hello, The same issue on Ubuntu 16.04 guest and windows 10 host. Yes, 3D acceleration is on. If i turn it off, VS Code works as expected. If i run "code --disable-gpu", VS code works as expected. VBox.log is attached.

Please see #15417: just having Chromium running in the guest is enough to trigger this. Otherwise, note that 3D in X11 guests is currently user-supported - see the wiki page for the longer explanation.
