Description
On three occasions with different versions of VirtualBox I have had an unwanted snapshot restore. Linux host Windows 10 guest It starts with a system hang similar to #15529 where the system is unresponsive and virtualbox is using 100% of the CPU. The only choice is to do a Power Off from the Virtual Box Manager. The guest shuts down and immediately does a restore of the most recent snapshot losing all of my current work. I do not have the log files as they were lost when the disk was recovered from the nightly backup.

I am using Machine/Close/PowerOff. I did not get a menu. This only happens when I am forcibly shutting down a hung/un-responsive system. I do not see any messages/settings referencing 'Restore current snapshot...'.

Since I am no longer having the 100% CPU system hang, this is no longer an issue.
Try to power-off this VM again and check the menu which appears. There is most likely a checkbox with Restore current snapshot 'name of the snapshot' .
