Description
My host machine is a Intel Core 7 system running on Windows 7 Enterprise x64. I recently updated my VirtualBox from v5.0.16 to 5.0.22. After updating the Guest Additions on 64-bit Debian guest and rebooting, the guest hung on shutdown (see attached screenshots). I had to use Windows TaskManager to kill all of the VirtualBox processes (see attached GIF video capture).

I reverted Virtual Box back to 5.0.16. Oddly enough, the Debian guest (which still has v5.0.22 Guest Additions installed) does not hang on shutdown.
Should I revert the Guest Additions back to v5.0.16 as well, or is it safe to have newer Guest Additions (v5.0.22) used in tandem with an older version of the VirtualBox host (v5.0.16)?

Keeping the Guest Additions on 5.0.22 should not cause any harm.
I would like to see a VBox.log file for such a VM session. From VBox 5.0.16 would be fine, it's mainly to have a look at your VM configuration.

Thanks for the log. Could you try the most recent 5.0 test build and check if the issue is gone? I don't know the exact reason but your VM has the I/O-APIC enable and there is a releated problem in 5.0.22 so the test build could help. Thank you!

I just installed VirtualBox-5.0.24-108355 on my Windows 7 x64 host along with Guest Additions 5.0.24 on my Debian x64 guest. I can confirm that this particular issue appears to have been resolved. Thank you.
