Description
Me and a collegue has been running Windows XP SP2 since aprox. a year back. When upgrading to Fedora Core 9 from Fedora Core 8 and from the VirtualBox 1.5.6 to VirtualBox 1.6.0 we both encountered a blue screen failure in the Windows XP guest telling you to run CHKDISK. We did this without any success.
Selecting IDE controller type PIIX3 instead of PIIX4 solved the issue. The problem can be recreated by selecting PIIX4 as IDE controller type.

We made this change in controller type to be more compatible with VMWare. It's inconvenient when upgrading, but there's not much we can do about it.

Note that we will provide a VM import mechanism in the future to avoid such upgrade problems. This will still require the original VM config file of course.
This is expected as Windows is very pity when changing the IDE controller of the boot medium. The default setting of VirtualBox changed from PIIX3 to PIIX4 from 1.5.x to 1.6.x but this default setting should only apply to new VM sessions.
