Description
on a windows host, I was unable to install suse 64 bit linux guest using sata. The vdisk wasn't detected by the installer. The same issue with OS x, trying to install windows as a guest. SATA attached disk not detected, or not responding. I was able to use ide on both hosts, and i was also able to use sas on the os x machine with a window guest. Haven't tested other configurations, and possibly i missed something. I did try both ich3 and ich9, but no difference.
this is using virtualbox 5.1.2. In both cases 64 bit guest. Windows 7 guest. Not sure of suse guest version, but most recent as of 7/30/16.

SATA is the default for many guests and we've never seen any problem with that recently. I would like to see at least a VBox.log file for the VM when you try to install the Linux guest and the installer is not able to detect the virtual disk.

mistake in report, sas didn't work either. I was able to use the virtual lsi scsi device with guest windows 7 65 bit on os x host. haven't tried it with guest suse linux, that is currently running on ide on windows host.
