#15930 new defect
Settings/Storage crashes VBoxManage (always...on one PC)
Reported by: | Richard Kerry | Owned by: | |
---|---|---|---|
Component: | GUI | Version: | VirtualBox 5.1.6 |
Keywords: | "VBox Manage" Storage | Cc: | |
Guest type: | all | Host type: | Windows |
Description
Selecting a VM then Settings->Storage crashes VirtualBox Manager.
This happens always on one PC but not at all on another.
Both are running Windows 10.
I note also that having triggered this fault deliberately I am getting one Application Error at the point of the crash, followed by a number of further events relating to this over the following half an hour or so.
I am attaching all the Windows Event viewer reports that mention VBox Manager, and a zipped copy of all the referenced WER folders.

This usually comes as a result of having extra Explorer namespaces to search through. Like having installed a Bluetooth adapter that adds an extra item to the Explorer tree (on the left). Anything like that perhaps?

Not Bluetooth, but if you mean Explorer's Navigation pane I have OneDrive (personal and corporate) also there at the top level (ie level with Quick access, This PC, Network, Homegroup).
Is that what you meant ?

Yes. I'll take a wild guess that this is missing from the PC that it is working, right?

Actually one more thing is that on the PC with the crash I seem to be seeing a ribbon at the top of Explorer windows, but on the one that's OK I just get a menu. Maybe there's some setting that's making it show like that - I'm not conscious of having selected that.
However, I would suggest that such an apparently minor (to a user) issue shouldn't cause a crash in an application.
Oh, and regarding your comment:3 the one that doesn't crash has Dropbox and OneDrive at that level, but not the two different OneDrive variants.
All Windows Events that I believe to be related to this crash.
