#16452 new defect
Guest OS time is not in sync with host OS time after host is awake from sleep mode
Reported by: | anurag26 | Owned by: | |
---|---|---|---|
Component: | other | Version: | VirtualBox 5.1.14 |
Keywords: | time sync | Cc: | |
Guest type: | Windows | Host type: | Linux |
Description
Details: Host OS - Win 7 64x Guest OS - Ubuntu Desktop 64x
Steps to replicate: Start the Guest OS in VM box. Put the Host OS in sleep mode. Start the Host OS after some time from sleep mode. Observe the clock on guest OS in VM, it displays the time when the host was put in to sleep. (I usually put to sleep after leaving work and start next day) Even after login to Guest OS, the time doesn't sync have to manually sync.
Please see the screen shot for reference. Couldn't find a reference to this issue in community.

Obvious question: Do you have the Guest Additions installed and running in your guest? I would like to see a VBox.log file of such a VM session.

Similar problem here with VirtualBox 6.0.8 running Xubuntu 18.04 guest on Windows 7. The guest has Guest Additions correctly installed (proven by running in seamless mode).
The output from the commands on guest and host ran almost together (~1 s difference):
$ timedatectl status Local time: Mon 2019-07-08 17:18:10 CEST Universal time: Mon 2019-07-08 15:18:10 UTC RTC time: Mon 2019-07-08 15:12:21 Time zone: Europe/Prague (CEST, +0200) System clock synchronized: no systemd-timesyncd.service active: yes RTC in local TZ: no C:\>echo %DATE% %TIME% út 09.07.2019 8:27:04,82
The guest has no connection to default NTP servers due to the LAN firewall. When I set local NTP servers on the guest, the time is synced automatically about one minute after waking the guest.

@Melebius,
If you're not user 'GLM' from the forums, then please take a look at the thread "Clock synchronization fails when using KVM paravirtualization" and see if disabling KVM in VM Settings » System » Acceleration » Paravirtualization Interface » None, makes a difference or not.
I tried to replicate it, but I foolishly forgot to turn off the internet access! :o
Will try again to repeat it and update the thread in the forums, let's continue the discussion there...
