Description
Since updating to VB 5.1.12, the graphics performance of my Win XP Pro guest has degraded drastically. Now, dragging or resizing windows within the guest is very slow. The onscreen movement can lag behind the cursor movement by up to 10 seconds in a stuttering manner.
I have increased the guest settings to 3GB RAM and 128MB of video memory, but this made no difference. 2D and 3D acceleration is on, but it also makes no difference. Using a non-standard window size also has no effect.
My iMac (2010 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo) is running 10.12.3, and has 8GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD.
Reverting to Ver. 5.0.30 (and corresponding Ext Pack / Guest Additions), cures the problem, but any version 5.1.X has the issue.
Other people have reported the same problem with Linux, Win7 and Win10 guests, so is not guest specific. Apparently, the problem doesn't occur when using MacOS 10.9 but only 10.12.X

Yes it is a duplicate in terms of the symptoms, although note that this is with a Windows rather than Linux guest. Host is the same though - MacOS 10.12

Indeed, now I see that you commented there too. Any chance you could check a Linux guest? And please attach a log file; it probably makes sense to attach it to #16436.

I don't use Linux, but will attach a log file. However, note that I am now using 5.0.30, which works fine, so the log file probably won't tell you anything.

You download a LiveDVD and you create a virtual machine around it. You just boot it in live mode and see if the graphics are slow like in your XP guest. Simple.
Here's one you can try: http://releases.ubuntu.com/16.04/ Try the desktop one, 64- or 32-bit doesn't matter. Create an Ubuntu VM (matching the bits that you downloaded), and boot from the ISO that you downloaded. I've been trying to explain it to you for a long time, I'm sorry if I hadn't been clear enough...

I really don't know why you are persisting with this. Multiple people have now reported the graphics problem when using VB 5.1.X in conjunction with MacOS 10.12.X, and with multiple guests.
Ask someone who uses Linux.

My comment on ticket https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/16436 was merely to show that I (a Windows user) have seen exactly the same issue with Windows guests, so it is not confined to Linux guests.
It is also why I logged a separate ticket, relating to Windows guests, which is all I am interested in. "I've been trying to explain it to you for a long time, I'm sorry if I hadn't been clear enough... "

Just from where I stand: on the whole, when I ask you to do a test like that, it is a request or a suggestion and nothing more. This is probably something I am not likely to be looking at myself, but generally, since all developers are rather constrained for time (probably applies to most open source projects), the more information you can provide about a problem, the higher the chances that someone will look at it and possibly fix it. On the other hand, I assume that like us, you also have a limited time available, and it is for you to decide how much time you want to invest in this and how important it is to you.
Anyway, I will close this ticket on the assumption that it is the same problem.

I mean that attaching USB mouse directly to guest should be a workaround for slow guest responce. We want to clarify whether it is slow rendering or a slow mouse event delivery.

Just tried 5.1.18 and that is as bad as ever.
I don't think it is a mouse issue, because the lag gets worse as the window size within the Guest is increased. That is, small windows within the overall Guest window have less lag than large windows. I just tried opening a folder window within the Guest OS to be about 60% of the size of the overall Guest window, and movement or resizing was extremely slow - several seconds delay. With smaller windows, the delay is a lot less. If it was a mouse issue, the delay would be independent of window size. It is definitely a graphics issue - it behaves as if the frame refresh rate is very slow.
I have now reverted to 5.0.30, and the problem disappears.
