Ryzen 7 - Not detecting 64bit host
Reported by: | Beliskner | Owned by: | |
---|---|---|---|
Component: | VMM/HWACCM | Version: | VirtualBox 5.1.18 |
Keywords: | Ryzen | Cc: | |
Guest type: | all | Host type: | Windows |
Description
On windows 10 Pro x64 running a Ryzen 1700 VirtualBox does not correctly detect it is running on a 64bit host, as a result only 32bit guest machines can be created. This applies to both Windows/Linux guest machines.
Side note, although Windows Task Manager reports Virtualisation as being disabled this may be a separate windows bug. I have successfully started an empty 32 machine.

You have to enable virtualization (SVM) in the BIOS. Some Ryzen boards have it disabled by default.

You are correct and I feel like a fool! The setting was buried in the bios and I wrongly assumed because Hyper-V was supported so was virtualisation. Thanks
