VirtualBox Crash on Open Mac OS X Host
Reported by: | aggiechris | Owned by:

Component: | other | Version: | VirtualBox 5.1.20 |
Keywords: | mac crash os x | Cc:

Description
On a fresh install of Mac OS 10.12.4, I installed VirtualBox 5.1.20. Each attempt to open after installation resulted in a crash before the main window displayed.
I attempted to use the uninstall tool and reinstall, to no avail. I installed the 5.0 series to try it and it seems to work just fine; I'm running a Windows Server 2012 VM right now.
Running a Mid 2010 13" MacBook Pro with a Core 2 Duo and 8 GB of RAM.
More system info and the description of the crash in the logfile attached.

aggiechris, could you check the exact version number of your 5.1.20 package (About VirtualBox menu item)? There was an annoying regression in 5.1.20 114628 which we fixed in 5.1.20 114629.

Frank, we've been getting reports about this in the forums as well. So far, we've got three reports (one of them with 10.2.5) all of them about a hard crash on startup. Reports from users "redishtea", "denver" and "okiuss". I don't know if "aggiechris" is one of them (most probably not), but that would make 4 the reports so far. Logs/reports in the forums: Virtualbox 5.1.20 crashes on OSX ≥ 10.12.4.
I'll point the discussion to the ticket as well.

One user in the forums (okiuss) reported that there's a crash with build 114628, but it's working great with build 114629.

Make that two reports. "denver" indirectly confirmed success with build 114629.

Thanks socratis. I've added a comment to the forums thread. For those 5.1.20 crashes with the 114629 build I would like to see VM process crashes.

Accidentally put host type "other," definitely a Mac OS X host.
