Guest Additions Directory Listing in Windows XP

Description
Windows XP installed in VirtualBox. Host Window 7 or Windows 10. Directory listing works OK as 'dir' from DOS Prompt or as 'file open' from notepad. But for some programs, if directory listing returns 8 or fewer files, OK; but if directory listing returns 9 or more files, nothing. An example program with this problem is the old Norton fa.exe command which lists files and attributes (eg, archive, readonly).
