Keyboard/mouse not working after connecting to Dell Docking Station

Description
I have a Dell docking station and the USB keyboard and mouse are plugged into the docking station. If VirtualBox is already running and I connect the laptop to the docking station, the keyboard and mouse do not work. If I first connect the laptop to the docking station and then start VirtualBox, then keyboard and mouse work fine. So I have to close down all VirtualBox windows everytime I disconnect and reconnect back to the dock.
