#17739 new defect
Seamless mode not working with Fedora 28 guest
Reported by: | AB | Owned by: | |
---|---|---|---|
Component: | guest additions | Version: | VirtualBox 5.2.10 |
Keywords: | fedora 28, fedora, windows 10, windows | Cc: | |

Description
After vbox guest additions are installed with no errors, I observe that the seamless mode option is no longer disabled but I am still unable to copy/paste in either direction.
Entering seamless mode also does not show the windows open in guest OS but I am unfamiliar with seamless mode to know if it was user error or system error.

Guest -
Fedora 28

Summary: | Guest Additions not working with Fedora 28 → Seamless mode not working with Fedora 28 guest |

Unfortunately, our seamless mode only supports X11 guest windows, and not pure Wayland ones. I have a couple of ideas to fix this, but no time in the foreseeable future (not even the distant horizon) to implement them.

In the meantime you can use the X11 version of GNOME. I have tested this, and seamless mode works this way. From the Fedora manual:
"Wayland is enabled by default in the GNOME Desktop. You can choose to run GNOME in X11 by choosing the Gnome on xorg option in the session chooser on the login screen. Currently KDE still uses X11 and although there is a plasma-wayland session available, it is not considered stable or bugfree at this time."
If you want to use the latest version for your host/guests, you should also consider doing the same for VirtualBox. Download the latest official VirtualBox. As of this writing, that would be version 5.2.10. If that doesn't work (since F28 is a really new release) you should try the latest test builds.
Finally, may I suggest something? It's usually better and faster, if issues like this one (configuration, question) get first addressed in the VirtualBox forums. More than 95% of the issues are resolved over there...
