VM boot fails with following error in the VBoxHardening.log

Solved with this recommendation https://stackoverflow.com/a/41193564/1540501 After running this need to reboot.

There's an even better one in the VirtualBox forums, the FAQ: Diagnosing VirtualBox Hardening Issues. No need to go hunting on 3rd party sites, and most importantly, no need to open a soon-to-be-closed, marked as "Invalid", not-a-bug ticket...
