Edgy Server does not boot

Description
Ubuntu Edgy Server from ubuntu-6.10-server-i386.iso installs fine. On first reboot, an error message is displayed (see screenshot): "Unkown interrupt or fault at EIP 00000060 c0100295 00000294" and refuses to boot.
Guest kernel: 2.6.17.10-server Host: Ubuntu Edgy 6.10 Desktop

Your kernel has a known bug that tends to show up in virtualization products. VMWare provided a fix that was included in 2.6.18.3 iirc.

I did some googling and they only thing I discovered was in ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=294712 apt-get install linux-386 apt-get remove linux-server
