Description
With the latest 5.2.20 update of virtual box and guest additions Oracle Linux 7.2 with 3.10 kernel freezes on boot after 'started udev' message. Kernel 3.8 seem to boot normally (until boot process hits #17664 anyway). Before I update guest additions, guest was loading fine.

When I changed chipset from PIIX to ICH9 and IDE type from PIIX to ICH6 guest began to boot fine.
Update: retested, it seems I got lucky just once, guest freezes with ICH9 also.

I am wondering why the host log file is reporting version 5.2.20 of the Additions but the dmesg in the crash report archive 5.2.10.

I just tested again with virtualbox 6.0 (updated guest additions too, not without problems, see https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/18238), and tried to remove guest additions modules one by one. Removing vboxvideo solves the problem, when it present, system freezes on boot.

Are you able to create a fresh virtual machine which also shows this problem?

Yes, on newly installed Oracle Linux 7.2 and guest additions 6.0 the problem present.

So I am successfully running OL7.2 guest with chipset PIIX3 and IDE controller chipset PIIX4 with Virtualbox trunk, 6.1.4 and 6.0.18 without any of the problem described here. The latest 5.2 release is 5.2.38.
So please re-open if this is an issue with any of these new releases.
